Bugle Call Returns to Favoured Track

Lightly tried son of Tavistock, Bugle Call (pictured), will be looking to break through for a well-deserved win at Te Rapa today after stringing together some very encouraging performances last preparation on the same course.

Competing in the Rating 65 event over 1600m, Bugle Call will be ridden by leading jockey Matthew Cameron and will have to sport around the top weight of 60kg on a Slow9 track.

“He can run well fresh, and he has performed on slow-heavy going,” co-trainer Pam Gerard said.

“We’ve drawn well and he should get the right run in transit – it’s just a matter of getting through the ground with that weight.

“Matt knows him well and he’s a promising horse in the making – we’re excited about his prospects going forward.”

Bugle Call is out of the stakes placed Sir Tristram mare Starina and has finished in the first three at four of his sic career starts.

Heading to Waipa on Sunday where two three-year-old fillies Like A Lie (Pins) and Avec Moi (Pour Moi) will tackle their respective races over 1150m and 1400m.

Making her first race day appearance in the Vermair Racing colours, Like A Like has drawn nicely (6) and will be ridden by senior jockey Craig Grylls.
“There is a bit of a concern over the amount of rain they have had there, but she might be good enough to get through it,” said Gerard.

“She has done everything right at the trials and we’re happy with where she is at – she’s a nice filly and her sire (Pins) is flying.”

The second runner on the card will Avec Moi who was gallant in her first race day appearance at Te Rapa earlier in the month, although she may find the testing conditions too much.

“We were rapped with her debut effort – in what was an extremely hot field – and we’re not confident that she will handle the testing conditions.”

“She’s a lovely filly that we think has taken plenty of improvement for the run and we’re keen just to take her along nicely.”

Avec Moi is set to tackle the maiden three-year-old event over 1400m but is a likely non-starter.
