LAKHONI ALL THE WAY ON DEBUT

Lakhoni gave connections a winning start with an all the way win on debut at Bendigo on Friday.

Starting from the outside, Lakhoni showed good speed to cross to the lead and then set a solid pace in the Mitchell Street Florist Maiden over 1100m.

Patrick Moloney asked Lakhoni to quicken and he went clear, staying on to hold the late thrust of Futurist to score by a nose.

Moloney said Lakhoni (pictured as a yearling) showed plenty of natural speed.

“He drew sticky and we were a little bit worried that there was a bit of speed drawn near the inside,” Moloney said.

“Pleasingly he showed all the speed he did in his last jumpout and flew the gates and got across at his own leisure.

“He had it his own way in front and then he gave me a real good kick at the top of the straight.

“He was getting a little bit tired late but he’s a real professional and got the job done at his first start.”

A gelded son of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and French Derby winner Dalakhani, Lakhoni is the first Australian conceived winner for his sire.

Closely related to Group 1 winners Rising Romance, Able One and Rebel Raider and is open to further improvement according to Moloney.

“He’s only had the two trials this time in and he’s had a good blow there and he’ll keep on improving,” Moloney said.

“He’s a nice type for the future and it’s great to see all the hard work done by the team at Flemington paying off with some nice three-year-olds coming through the system.”

Congratulations to Lakhoni's owners Peter and Julie Bellas, who bred Lakhoni - the first foal from their Stravinsky mare Pretty Composed.
