HANG MAN HEADS THE TEAM ON THE FINAL DAY AT WARRNAMBOOL

Three runners to represent the team at Warrnambool on the final day of the May meeting including promising import Hang Man.

Hang Man (pictured) is the first to go in race four, the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 2000m with Patrick Moloney to ride and jumping from barrier 10.

The son of Windsor Knot has impressed in both his Australian starts, powering home by five lengths on a heavy track at Terang at his last start on April 15.

Mike Moroney is content to take his time with Hang Man.

“We have a good opinion of him and his maiden win was impressive,” Moroney said. “The slight step up in trip here should suit him and I’m not concerned about the draw.

“He will be midfield early and he looks one horse in the race with up-side.

“We’re happy to take him through his grades as he learns his craft - this will only be his fourth start and if the rain does arrive before his race then that will not inconvenience him.”

Barthelona is in race five, the Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1100m with Jordan Childs to ride and jumping from barrier 12.

Barthelona made good ground late when fourth at Sandown first-up on April 11 and has pleased Moroney since.

“He’s trained on well and we’re really happy with him,” Moroney said. “This looks an open race but he’s down on a nice weight for a horse of his ability.

“Ideally we’d like to see him midfield and away from the speed battle and then close out in the straight and be in the finish.”

War Legend starts his campaign in race eight, the Mercedes Benz Handicap over 1400m with Patrick Moloney to ride from barrier eight.

The five-year-old has not raced since finishing fifth at Sandown last December.

“He’s trialled up well and looks terrific but whatever he does I’m thinking he will improve on it,” Moroney said.

"His jumpouts have been good and he’s won twice first-up previously.

“If it did happen to rain before his race then it should suit him but it looks an open race as you would expect.

“If things fell his way it will not surprise me to see him run a big race.”
